Trump Midterm Elections : US President Donald Trump has rescheduled campaign rallies in Kansas and Iowa after postponing both events the day before, as Republicans prepare for the November 3 midterm elections. The shift occurred as Trump defended his party’s prospects of maintaining control of Congress and faced questions about his health and campaign energy levels.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump said Republicans still had a chance to do well in the midterms. He acknowledged the party’s difficult situation, adding that presidents frequently lose support in midterm elections.
“Typically, a president, whether he’s good or bad, Republican or Democrat, loses the midterms,” Trump stated. He also stated the Republicans had “a shot at doing well” and may possibly perform extremely well.
Trump stated that he first canceled the rallies because he intended to have virtual gatherings instead. However, he said that Republican members from Kansas and Iowa contacted him and suggested that an in-person presence would be more successful.
Trump Restores Rallies as Republicans Face Tight Races
The decision to reschedule the two engagements came in response to queries over Trump’s decision to withdraw from the trip plan. Trump, 80, complained about losing his voice earlier this week, but he denied that sickness was to blame for the postponed trip to Kansas.
“I feel perfect,” he declared on Thursday, noting that he did not need to go to Kansas because Republican Senator Roger Marshall was doing well.
Political expert Mike Fahey speculated that the turnaround may have been an attempt to deflect queries about Trump’s energy level. He stated that reinstating the events would be an easy approach to counter that narrative.
The stakes are high for Republicans in the November 3 election. The Republicans is defending its 53-47 Senate majority, while Democrats are hoping to gain control of at least one chamber of Congress. A power change might hinder Trump’s ability to carry out his legislative agenda over his last two years in office.
Trump has established himself as a key role in the Republican campaign, believing that his presence will motivate members of his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement to vote.
Kansas and Iowa both supported Trump handily in 2024, but the states currently have competitive races. Marshall will face Democrat Adam Hamilton in Kansas, where no Democrat has won a Senate race since 1932. In Iowa, Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson is facing Democrat Josh Turek in a tight fight.
Trump Faces Midterm Pressure as Early Voting Rises
The newest campaign events occur as early voting hits a historic high. According to figures revealed on Friday, 47.9 million Americans have already voted in the midterm elections. Participation has grown in some hotly fought states, with registered Democrats outnumbering Republicans among early voters.
Pope Leo XIV, the first Catholic Church leader born in the United States, was a noteworthy vote-getter. The Vatican stated that Francis cast a mail-in ballot in Chicago, marking the first known instance of a pope participating in a democratic election.
Trump has encouraged people to view the midterms as a referendum on his administration, asking Republicans to “pretend I’m on the ballot.” He has also pledged a $5,000 payment to each American citizen if Republicans maintain control of Congress.
The president has warned that if Republicans lose, he might face a third impeachment. Democrats, on the other hand, may be more focused on the 2028 presidential race. Trump has also often claimed that the 2020 presidential election was rigged, raising questions about whether he will accept a Republican defeat in the midterm elections.
With competitive elections in places that historically supported Trump, the revived rallies provide him with another opportunity to campaign in person. The November 3 election will determine whether Republicans maintain their congressional majorities or Democrats seize control of at least one house.
