INDIA coalition leaders plan to address the Supreme Court on Monday, requesting action on claims of “vote chori” and a suspension to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of election rolls. The opposition group intends to present a memorandum to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, with Rahul Gandhi leading the march.
This protest comes as opposition parties express worries over election rolls and call for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Gandhi has also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming that they will be unable to stifle India’s voice.
INDIA Bloc March Targets Vote Chori Claims and SIR
Gandhi, the Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha and a member of Parliament from Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, is slated to head the trip to the Supreme Court. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress founder Mamata Banerjee, and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav are also slated to attend the march.
The opposition leaders aim to address their concerns directly with the Chief Justice. Their memorandum is expected to center on the “vote chori” charges and the call to halt the updating of electoral rolls.
However, Chief Justice Surya Kant had previously turned down Gandhi’s plea for a meeting. He stated that the issues Gandhi wished to raise were already before the Supreme Court.
Gandhi has also responded to the Delhi Police’s actions against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters. He stated that the opposition leaders will approach the court with a message of “love, brotherhood, and patriotism”.
The planned march brings together numerous notable opposition personalities to voice their worries about the voting process. The delegation is calling for the CEC’s resignation and a halt to the SIR exercise.
INDIA Bloc March Leads to Delhi Security Measures
The authorities have strengthened security in downtown Delhi ahead of the planned march by opposition leaders. Police officers are keeping a strong presence in important places, and a traffic alert has been issued for Monday.
Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through the impacted regions and to cooperate with police officers. The advise aims to aid in traffic management during the march.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has also set temporary limitations at six stations. The entry and departure gates at Patel Chowk, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, and Barakhamba Road have all been closed.
The restrictions are planned to last until 4 p.m. on Monday. Passengers travelling through central Delhi should plan their trips accordingly and check for any changes before departing.
During the scheduled demonstration, security precautions and metro limitations are expected to impede movement in certain parts of the capital. The march focuses on the opposition’s demands for electoral rolls, the resignation of the CEC, and charges of vote rigging.
The leaders of the INDIA group intend to address their concerns to the Supreme Court via a formal memorandum. The outcome of their request will be determined by the proceedings and the court’s examination of the arguments raised.
