The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) planned a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, thus Delhi is prepared for increased security and travel restrictions. The protest is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar due to suspected irregularities in election-related activities.
The Delhi Police have denied permission for the meeting, and Section 163 restrictions have been placed in New Delhi and the region surrounding Jantar Mantar. Despite these steps, the party expects to carry on with its protest.
Security personnel have been stationed at strategic spots, and barriers have been built around the capital. The planned demonstration has also resulted in disruptions to public transit, internet connectivity, and business enterprises.
Delhi CJP Protest: Metro and Train Services Affected
Delhi Metro services would be severely restricted, with 45 stations set to close beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday and continuing till further notice. The restrictions were requested by Delhi Police and implemented by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Normal operations at the impacted stations are likely to resume once things return to normal.
Rail travel will also be impacted. The railroads have cancelled 38 trains due to arrive in Delhi between 4 a.m. and 2 p.m. on October 10. The disruptions affect trains to New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations, where significant traffic is expected.
Passengers in the National Capital Region should be aware of limitations at two quick train stations. The Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat stations, run by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), are planned to be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday until 10 p.m. Saturday.
Bus and vehicle transit may be disrupted as well. Police have increased security at Delhi’s border crossings and will prevent buses and other vehicles conveying protesters from entering the New Delhi region. Drone cameras are also being utilised to patrol the capital’s perimeter.
Travellers should check their rail and metro schedules before departing, since limitations may disrupt their typical itineraries.
Delhi CJP Protest: Internet and Market Closures
Internet access is scheduled to be halted within a four-kilometre radius around Jantar Mantar. The ban will be from 10 p.m. on October 9 to 10 p.m. on October 10, according to Delhi Police sources.
Commercial activities will also be impacted in several areas of the city. The New Delhi Traders Association has recommended stores, offices, restaurants, and other business enterprises in Connaught Place to close on Saturday as a precaution.
The Delhi Electrical Traders Association has announced that the power market at Bhagirath Palace would be closed for the day.
These preparations are taken as officials prepare for the anticipated meeting despite the lack of police approval. Residents and tourists may have to change their travel and shopping plans due to transportation, connection, and business constraints.
The amount of the interruption will be determined by the security situation and the duration of the limitations. People wishing to visit downtown Delhi should check for the most recent government details before travelling.
