The prime minister presided over a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on Sunday night, which is the country’s highest decision-making body on security and strategic issues. The meeting was called to examine the evolving situation following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran and the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the meeting.

According to reports, the group explored ways to react in the event that the situation worsens and talked about the protection of Indian citizens residing in West Asia as well as those who are stranded there.

Airspace disturbances and concerns over the Strait of Hormuz

Much of the airspace in West Asia is currently virtually completely restricted. Flight services have been hampered as a result of the military escalation, leaving hundreds of Indians stuck in Dubai, Doha, and other key airports in the area, with many appealing to the Indian government for assistance on social media.

According to reports, the summit also discussed the situation following Iranian authorities’ shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for Indian oil ships.
