WiseTech annual profit Miss Sends Shares Down 10%

WiseTech annual profit fell short of market expectations for the year ended June 30, sending shares of Australia’s biggest technology company down more than 10% on Wednesday. The result was affected by costs linked to the company’s acquisition of U.S.-based cloud software firm e2open.

WiseTech Global’s shares fell as much as 10.3% to A$40.80 during trade. The decline also dragged on Australia’s benchmark AX200 index, which down 0.3%, while the technology sub-index plummeted around 3%.

WiseTech reported a statutory net profit after tax of $178.7 million in the fiscal year. According to Visible Alpha statistics quoted in a Jefferies research, this fell short of analysts’ expectations of $181.9 million.

The company stated that expenses tied to its e2open agreement had lowered its statutory earnings. These included interest and amortization charges associated with the acquisition.

WiseTech completed its acquisition of e2open in early August. The acquisition strengthened the company’s position in cloud-based logistics software and was valued at $2.1 billion.

CargoWise Also Falls Short of Estimate

CargoWise, WiseTech’s key income generator, also performed slightly below expectations. The outcome was 0.7% lower than Visible Alpha’s estimate.

The lower-than-expected yearly profit put pressure on the company’s stock as investors assessed the impact of the e2open acquisition on earnings.

WiseTech is Australia’s largest technology business by market capitalization. Its software is widely utilized throughout the global logistics industry, with CargoWise serving as its flagship product.
