The search for Sandarsh Krishna, a 26-year-old Indian student who went missing inside Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park, has ended tragically. After nearly ten days of searching, authorities revealed that his body had been found near the national park’s South Rim. Officials, however, claimed the actual cause of death has yet to be determined, and investigations are still ongoing.
Sandarsh Krishna, who was originally from India and studying in the United States, was reported missing on April 28 after failing to return from a trip to the Grand Canyon. According to park officials, he was last spotted on the Rim Trail between Bright Angel Lodge and Mohave Point.
The National Park Service said that the body was recovered below the South Rim, near Verkamp’s Visitor Center. The remains were eventually identified by the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. Authorities stated that further investigation is required before verifying the cause of his death.
Sandarsh Krishna Grand Canyon Case Shocked Indian Community in US
The disappearance of Sandarsh Krishna drew widespread attention in the United States and among Indian communities worldwide. Friends, pupils, and family members had posted appeals on social media demanding assistance and information on his whereabouts.
According to reports, Krishna was pursuing a master’s degree in computer science at Arizona State University and was slated to graduate soon. His abrupt disappearance profoundly concerned his family, especially after his possessions were discovered separated from him.
Investigators previously discovered a black backpack thought to belong to Krishna. An unnamed man turned in the bag to hotel workers at Bright Angel Lodge. Authorities explained that the guy who handed them the backpack was not a suspect, but investigators hoped he could provide valuable information regarding Krishna’s last moves inside the park.
According to officials, Krishna did not have a private vehicle within the national park and may have taken a taxi or rideshare service. Before locating the corpse, search teams, including park rangers and investigators, spent several days combing through hiking trails and inaccessible canyon locations.
His brother, Adarsh Krishna, had previously spoken with local media, expressing hope that Sandarsh would return safely. He reportedly stated that the family was looking for answers and wanted adequate closure for the situation.

The Grand Canyon National Park is one of America’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting millions of tourists each year. Park officials frequently warn travelers to observe safety advice, bring plenty of water, and avoid remote routes after dark.
Authorities have not established whether Sandarsh Krishna was involved in an accident, medical emergency, or any other occurrence. Officials stated the inquiry is still ongoing, and further information may be disclosed once medical examination findings are finalized.
