Pezeshkian US Talks Are ‘Meaningless’ After Three Attacks on Iran

Pezeshkian US Talks : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has condemned Pezeshkian’s talks with the United States as “meaningless,” claiming Iran was attacked three times following earlier consultations with Washington. He made the remarks on Monday, while talks to end the conflict remain stuck.

According to Pezeshkian, the repeated attacks demonstrated that the United States was not sincerely interested in negotiation. He further asserted that Washington’s overarching goal was to depose Iran’s Islamic regime.

He denounced the assassination, sanctions, pressure, and threats against Iran. According to Pezeshkian, discussions could not achieve meaningful outcomes if the US continued to engage in such measures and failed to respect its pledges.

Pezeshkian US Talks Remain Stalled

The recent remarks after months of unsuccessful attempts to strike a long-term agreement. In late February, as Washington and Tehran were negotiating Iran’s nuclear program, the US and Israel launched surprise attacks on the country.

In June, both sides reached an agreement on a memorandum of understanding. The accord provided a basis for resolving the problem permanently.

The process did not proceed as intended. Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz resulted in the reintroduction of US military activities, but negotiations have since stalled.

Recent indirect talks between the US and Iran on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly also failed to yield a breakthrough.

In recent weeks, the US has curtailed its military activities in Iran while increasing economic pressure on the country. According to the source, Washington has not launched a strike against Iran since September 1.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi similarly dismissed the notion that military intervention could end the dispute. On Sunday, he stated that there was no military solution or more sanctions.

Araghchi stated that only negotiations based on justice and fairness could put an end to the dispute. He also warned that if the strikes resumed, Iran would intensify its defence.

Pezeshkian US Talks Face Tension Over Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz has also become known as an important concern in the conflict. Since the start of the war, Iran has attempted to control the movement of vessels along the crucial trade route.

Iran has targeted warships that tried to travel through the river without permission. Meanwhile, the US has placed a counterblockade on Iranian ports and assaulted vessels accused of breaking the blockade.

The waterway conflict has persisted, despite diplomatic efforts to make progress.

According to the British maritime service UKMTO, a tanker was struck while attempting to transit through the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. Another ship turned back on Monday as Iranian soldiers threatened to attack it.

The US and Israel have stated that their military campaign is required to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Iran has frequently denied that it is looking to acquire such weapons.

For the time being, Tehran and Washington maintain diametrically opposed viewpoints. Pezeshkian’s latest remarks demonstrate that Iran’s president sees little benefit in negotiations while attacks, sanctions, pressure, and threats persist.

With talks stalled and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz still high, there is no evidence of a new breakthrough between the two parties.
