BEIRUT — According to a senior member of Hezbollah, any future deal between the US and Iran will not disregard the situation in Lebanon. The declaration comes as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East continue as conversations about a possible US-Iran agreement gain steam.
Hassan Fadlallah, a prominent Hezbollah politician, warned supporters that Iran remained dedicated to Lebanon’s interests and would not support an agreement that did not address the country’s security concerns. His comments indicate growing Hezbollah supporters’ anticipation that Lebanon will be included in any broader regional agreement between Washington and Tehran.
The comments came as news surfaced that an agreement aimed at lowering hostilities between the US and Iran could be signed in the coming days. While details are still being worked out, regional analysts believe Lebanon has emerged as a crucial topic in the broader diplomatic effort.
US-Iran Deal, Lebanon Talks Shape Regional Outlook
Iran has frequently stated that any long-term regional peace should also resolve the issue between Lebanon and Israel. Tehran sees stability in Lebanon as a vital component of broader Middle East security discussions. Iranian authorities and advisers have recently stressed their support for Hezbollah while urging for a stop to military activities targeting Lebanese land.
The battle escalated earlier this year when Hezbollah joined the regional conflict in behalf of Iran. Since then, Israeli military actions and cross-border confrontations have resulted in severe damage and casualties, especially in southern Lebanon. The violence has displaced civilians and intensified pressure on Lebanese political leaders to find a path to stability.
Despite international mediation efforts, significant differences persist. Hezbollah has criticized suggestions that would require it to cease armed operations and evacuate from southern Lebanon. The organization claims that such requirements do not appropriately address Lebanese concerns or Israeli activities.
Hezbollah, Lebanon Future Depends on Diplomatic Progress
Lebanon’s authorities continue to advocate for measures that restore security and allow displaced residents to return home. Negotiations, however, remain challenging due to the involvement of various regional and international players. Analysts believe the conclusion of US-Iran talks might have a substantial impact on Lebanon’s political and security climate in the coming months.
Meanwhile, international groups encouraged all parties to avoid further escalation. The United Nations has warned that ongoing violence could exacerbate humanitarian situations and pose larger regional threats. Diplomatic measures are thus geared toward preventing a resumption of conflict while supporting negotiations.
For Hezbollah, the expectation remains clear: any agreement between Tehran and Washington must include Lebanon-related measures. Whether negotiators can reach that goal may influence the success of a future agreement as well as the chances for peace in an area plagued by instability and uncertainty for months.
