Abu Dhabi Hospitality Standards Introduced for Hotels Across the Emirate

Abu Dhabi Hospitality Standards have been introduced for hotels and hotel apartments across the emirate, with full implementation planned for the first quarter of 2027. The new framework is designed to bring Emirati culture and traditions into different parts of the visitor experience.

According to the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the framework includes 65 requirements that encompass the eight stages of a guest’s experience. The goal is to provide guests with a more authentic experience based on the emirate’s local culture and traditions.

Abu Dhabi Hospitality Standards Focus on Emirati Culture

Hotels are expected to incorporate historic characteristics into their offerings under the new requirements. Guests may be served Emirati coffee and dates, in addition to traditional cuisine created with locally produced ingredients.

Hotels will be encouraged and compelled to incorporate UAE tradition and history into how they welcome and serve guests. These methods are meant to make local traditions more visible during hotel stays.

Staff training is another essential component of the system. Employees at reception and guest services will be trained on the UAE’s legacy, culture, and history in order to better comprehend and offer these aspects to tourists.

The criteria are part of a larger attempt to strengthen national identity in Abu Dhabi’s hospitality sector. DCT Abu Dhabi stated that the project is in line with the UAE’s National Identity Strategy.

New Hotel Rules to Be Fully Implemented in 2027

Hotels and hotel apartments around the emirate will have time to prepare for the new criteria before full implementation in the first quarter of 2027. The framework establishes expectations across eight stages of the guest journey, rather than focusing on a single aspect of a hotel stay.

The initiative was established in collaboration with the National Projects Office and was supported by the National Identity Committee of the Federal National Council for Empowerment of Emirati Human Resources and Society.

Officials also tied the new requirements to the objectives of Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Strategy 2030. The strategy seeks to boost Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading international tourism destination while keeping tourism growth tied to its cultural legacy.

The new framework aims to provide tourists with a better understanding of Emirati culture during their stay in Abu Dhabi by incorporating traditional food, hospitality practices, heritage, and staff knowledge into hotel offerings.

The rules are planned to be fully implemented across the emirate in the first quarter of 2027.
