Oman Vessel Attack: 13 Indian Seafarers Rescued, One Still Missing

The Oman vessel attack on commercial ship MT El Gaia has left one Indian seafarer missing, while 13 others have been rescued. The vessel came under attack off the coast of Oman on Sunday, prompting search and rescue teams to continue efforts to locate the missing crew member.

India sharply condemned the event and demanded an immediate reduction in tensions in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the safety of seafarers, civilians, and commercial ships must be prioritized.

Oman Vessel Attack: Search Continues for Missing Indian

When the attack occurred, MT El Gaia had 14 Indian seafarers on board. Omani authorities have rescued 13 of them, while the search for the other Indian person continues.

India’s Embassy in Oman is monitoring the situation and collaborating with Omani officials participating in the rescue effort. Indian officials also hailed Oman for its assistance in getting the rescued sailors to safety.

The event has renewed concerns about the dangers that crews on commercial ships confront in places affected by regional conflicts. India has consistently highlighted the need of keeping important international waterways secure for ships and their workers.

India Calls for Peace and Safe Shipping

The Indian government has urged all parties to ease tensions and resolve regional concerns through conversation and diplomacy. It further stated that attacks on commercial vessels and civilian targets are unacceptable.

New Delhi is concerned about the safety of Indian sailors because many commercial vessels operating in conflict-affected seas have Indian crews.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed a Seafarers’ Emergency Support Network during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The plan seeks to provide further assistance to mariners experiencing security challenges as a result of regional conflicts.

Growing Risks for Indian Seafarers

The safety of Indian crew members has become a greater worry as attacks on commercial ships have escalated in various war zones.

The Ministry of External Affairs reported that 10 of the 16 seamen killed in the West Asia conflict were Indian. Five more Indian seamen have been killed in attacks on trade ships in the Black Sea.

The administration has asked for the resumption of free and safe travel through the region’s international waterways. It has also emphasized the importance of protecting commercial ship movements.

For the time being, the search for the missing Indian seafarer aboard the MT El Gaia continues. Indian officials and Omani authorities are still working together on the rescue operation.
