Germany Hybrid Warfare Alert : Germany is facing mounting security fears after Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt warned that foreign powers are targeting the country with what he described as everyday hybrid attacks. His warning came after officials detected a potential drone incident involving an explosive device near Leipzig/Halle Airport in eastern Germany.

Dobrindt stated that while Germany is not officially at war, hostile activities are becoming a regular security concern. He cautioned that foreign actors may use espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and covert operations to instill fear and undermine the country’s political and social stability.

The alert has raised fears about drone activities near important German infrastructure. Authorities are now examining whether the Leipzig incident was part of a larger plan to disrupt or intimidate the country.

Germany Hybrid Warfare Concerns Rise After Leipzig Drone Incident

The new security concerns arose when German authorities revealed that an explosive-laden drone was discovered near a runway at Leipzig/Halle Airport earlier this week. The airport serves as a significant transport and logistical hub, as well as providing assistance for NATO activities.

According to investigators, the drone looked to be equipped with professional explosives and a detonator, indicating that it was not a recreational gadget. A second suspected drone was apparently engaged in an incident near the airport, where it allegedly collided with a cargo plane performing a go-around maneuver. The airplane landed safely in Hanover, with very minor damage recorded.

The incident briefly disrupted airport operations and prompted new concerns about the security of Germany’s transportation and military infrastructure. Leipzig/Halle Airport is also linked to NATO’s Strategic Airlift International Solution, which facilitates the transportation of materiel for NATO’s eastern flank.

Dobrindt described the Leipzig episode as a potential “hybrid attack scenario.” However, German authorities have yet to publicly identify those responsible or confirm that the attack was orchestrated by a foreign government.

Concerns grew after Germany’s armed forces claimed that two drones were spotted late Thursday over a military base in Mechernich, North Rhine-Westphalia. The sighting happened few days after the reported event near Leipzig/Halle Airport.
