GEO Group Employee Charged : A GEO Group employee has been legally prosecuted after a demonstrator was shot outside the Aurora ICE Processing Center in Colorado. The incident has revived debate over security at immigration protests and generated fresh concerns about accountability in privately maintained detention facilities.

Prosecutors filed the complaint on July 22, about a week after the July 16 shooting outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Aurora. Investigators are still looking into the events that led up to the confrontation, and the criminal case is now moving forward in court.

What Happened Outside the Aurora ICE Processing Center?

Brandon Booth, 42, is an employee of GEO Group, the private business that manages the Aurora ICE Processing Center under ICE’s contract. According to authorities, Booth was off duty at the time of the event.

According to investigators, demonstrators had congregated outside the prison center, briefly blocking entry to the institution. Several colleagues who arrived for work remained inside their vehicles while the rally continued.

According to police, two ladies approached some of the automobiles, spoke with the staff, and photographed the autos. During the altercation, Booth allegedly exited his vehicle with a personally owned firearm and fired a single shot at the two women.

One protester was injured in the lower body, sustaining injuries that police described as non-life-threatening. Booth allegedly drove away from the incident but was apprehended by cops a short distance later and detained.

Prosecutors have officially charged Booth with assault in relation with the incident. As investigators continue to gather evidence, the case will go forward via the Colorado legal system.

GEO Group confirmed Booth’s unpaid administrative leave. The corporation also stated that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement in the current inquiry.
