CJP Protest : The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has threatened to restart its nationwide protest if authorities move against demonstrators involved in the recent student-led uprising. The warning came just days after the movement was suspended following talks with the Central government, indicating that tensions persist despite recent negotiations.
CJP leader Saurav Das expressed concern over the Supreme Court’s latest interim order. While he welcomed the court’s scrutiny, he expressed concern that previous police cases could be used against demonstrators. According to Das, judicial actions should not deter citizens from participating in peaceful protests.
CJP Protest Faces Fresh Uncertainty After Supreme Court Order
The Supreme Court recently permitted police to continue their investigations into existing First Information Reports (FIRs). However, the court ordered that no coercive action be used against eligible demonstrators while the legal procedure is ongoing. It also ordered the release of detained individuals with no criminal history and urged for an impartial probe into charges regarding the handling of the protests.
According to Saurav Das, the court’s observations have generated uncertainty among students and campaigners. He alleged that the Centre had previously informed protest leaders that they would not suffer repercussions when the movement was suspended.
According to Das, if demonstrators are jailed or face legal action despite the assurances, the CJP will be forced to renew its agitation. He underscored that any future protests will be nonviolent and democratic, with a focus on defending the rights of students and young people.
CJP Protest Leaders Demand Government Honour Commitments
The protest movement began in response to reports of irregularities in medical entrance examinations. It later grew into a larger campaign calling for better accountability, examination improvements, and stronger student protection.
After weeks of protests, the agitation was halted following talks with the Central administration. Protest leaders said the meetings resulted in various pledges, including policy improvements and commitments to address student concerns.
Despite the suspension, debates remain regarding the police prosecutions filed against demonstrators. CJP leaders feel that settling these cases is critical to reestablishing confidence between the government and the demonstrators.
While investigating charges of police misconduct during the demonstrations, the Supreme Court emphasised the importance of accountability. The bench stated that the investigation should assign blame whenever wrongdoing is discovered and guarantee that legal procedures are followed fairly.
Meanwhile, the Centre has defended law enforcement’s conduct and stated that it will follow the court’s instructions. As investigations progress, the legal process will likely continue under judicial supervision.
The nationwide protests are currently on hold. However, the CJP has made it plain that any action against protestors or failing to follow promises made during discussions might spark a new round of widespread protests.
