Embassy of the Philippines in the UAE Monitoring Reports of Filipinos Detained in United Arab Emirates Over Security Videos

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai stated they are following allegations that numerous Filipino nationals have been arrested in the UAE for allegedly filming and sharing online video about recent air defence interceptions and strikes.

Philippine ambassadors stated that they had contacted UAE authorities to obtain official confirmation and to verify the identities, legal status, and circumstances of any Filipinos involved.

The missions stated that they are attempting to verify the reports and would communicate with authorities as needed.

Warning to the Filipino community.

In a joint statement, the Philippine missions warned Filipinos in the UAE to be cautious when using social media and messaging services.

Officials cautioned citizens against sharing unverified information about security issues.The statement advised all Filipino nationals in the UAE to utilise social media and messaging platforms with caution and responsibility.

The embassies recommended the people to keep up to date on the security situation solely through official government pronouncements and trustworthy news sources.

The Philippines also emphasised its support for the United Arab Emirates’ sovereignty and the country’s ability to execute public order and security regulations.

UAE cracks down on deceptive defense-related content.

The caution comes as UAE authorities continue to strictly enforce rules against the internet broadcast of sensitive or false security-related content.

Earlier, UAE Attorney-General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi ordered the arrest of 25 people of various nationalities accused of spreading incorrect information about national defence.

Authorities said the suspects uploaded or produced videos related to recent events, including edited recordings created using artificial intelligence and content inciting acts of military action against the state.

Officials stated that the group has been referred for an expedited trial.

The UAE government has frequently cautioned that capturing or publishing videos of air defence interceptions, attacks, or other security incidents may violate national security and cybercrime legislation.

The Philippine Embassy and Consulate stated that the safety and well-being of the Filipino people remains a top priority.

Both embassies stated that they will continue to work with UAE police and security agencies while reminding the community to carefully follow local laws and customs.
