“Iran has just said that they will hit harder today than they have ever hit. They better not do it, though, because if they do, we will hit them with a force like never before,” President Trump stated on Truth Social.
Iran declared that the “pure blood of the martyred Leader will uproot the criminal regimes of the US and Israel” and described the murder of its Supreme Leader Khamenei as a “crime of assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution will not go unpunished,” according to Press TV.
According to Reuters, Iran has declared 40 days of public mourning following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In Shia Islam, the 40th day following death (Arba’een) is extremely sacred.

On Saturday, the US and Israel launched attacks (Operation Epic Fury/Lion’s Roar), which resulted in the death. By designating precisely 40 days of mourning, the government is relying on a powerful cultural script, giving the clerical establishment time to arrange the shift behind closed doors.
Ayatollah Khamenei succeeded Ruhollah Khomeini, the Revolution’s originator. Since 1989, his “story” has been one of unrelenting rejection to Western influence.
To avoid unrest and guarantee public safety, authorities have increased security around the country, particularly in large cities such as Tehran.
The process of selecting Khamenei’s successor is gaining attention, with speculation regarding probable contenders and the implications for Iran’s future leadership. Meeting under wartime conditions is difficult, and the most pressing topic is who “owns” the Republic’s future–the priests or the Revolutionary Guard.
State media portrays his death as the Martyrdom of the Guardian, presenting it not as a defeat, but as a final sacrifice for national sovereignty.
According to Tasnim News, Khamenei was assassinated at his workplace early Sunday morning.
The official Farsi account of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recognised his death and shared a Quranic phrase from Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:23, which translates to “Among the believers are men who have kept the covenant they made with Allah.” Some of them have fulfilled their vow [by death], while others are still waiting, with no change in their dedication.
