UN Chief Raises Concern Over Israel’s Security Cabinet Decisions, Reaffirms Two-State Solution
Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the Secretary-General, expressed concern about the Israeli security cabinet’s decision to authorize administrative and enforcement steps in the area.He warns that the present trend on the ground, including this decision, is undermining the prospects for a two-State settlement,” the statement stated.
It went on to say that Israeli actions were “not only destabilising but – as recalled by the International Court of Justice – unlawful.”
The UN Secretary-General urged Israel to rescind the actions in order to keep the route to long-term peace open.
Dujarric added: “The Secretary-General calls on Israel to reverse these measures and on all parties to preserve the only path to lasting peace, a negotiated two-State solution, in line with relevant Security Council resolutions and international law.”

The declaration comes after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced on Sunday a series of security cabinet decisions to “dramatically” overhaul land registration and property acquisition procedures in the West Bank, according to the Times of Israel.
According to the Oslo II Accords, which Israel and the Palestinian Authority signed in 1995, the West Bank is divided into three areas: A, B, and C, with Area C under full Israeli control, Area B under Palestinian civilian control and Israeli security control, and Area A under full Palestinian control, according to the Times of Israel.

According to the Times of Israel, the two ministers stated in a joint statement that the measures “are intended to remove decades-old barriers, repeal discriminatory Jordanian legislation, and enable accelerated development of settlement on the ground”.

According to the Times of Israel, the approved plan calls for the release of land registries in the West Bank, which means that property names will be made public, allowing potential buyers to identify proprietors and approach them about acquiring. Until now, land registration in the West Bank has been classified.
It also stated that the cabinet resolution overturned a legal requirement prohibiting non-Muslims from purchasing real estate in the area.
According to WAFA News Agency, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas decried the rulings as unlawful and unconstitutional, and urged the United States and the United Nations to intercede to prevent their execution.
WAFA stated that Abbas’ office “warned of the dangers of any infringement upon Islamic and Christian holy sites, emphasising that any violation of the Ibrahimi Mosque and the transfer of authority over it are unacceptable,” using a Muslim title for the Hebron compound.
