Following New Year’s Day celebrations, federal government employees will be able to work remotely on Friday, January 2, 2026. This will allow people to meet job deadlines while also balancing family time. Employees whose occupations need them to be on-site should continue to work as usual.
With the announcement of the first paid holiday in 2026, residents across the UAE are gearing up for a season of festivities. Expats and visitors can enjoy some of the region’s best fireworks and light shows. Officials in Ras Al Khaimah are planned a 15-minute fireworks extravaganza along 6 kilometers of shoreline with over 2,300 drones, pyrotechnics, and lasers. They also intend to set a Guinness World Record for the largest single firework ever launched.

Other emirates are also preparing for big events. New Year’s Eve celebrations in Dubai will include fireworks, drone shows, concerts, and beach parties at venues such as Global Village, Atlantis The Palm, and Bluewaters Island, among others. The shows will begin early in the evening and end at midnight.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Festival will celebrate the New Year with an extended fireworks and drone extravaganza. There will be an unprecedented 62-minute fireworks display in Al Wathba, the world’s largest drone performance, and a wide program of cultural and heritage events offered by participating countries, sponsors, and key partners.
The event will take place in five phases over New Year’s Eve, beginning at 8 p.m. and concluding at midnight with the main fireworks display.
The authority extended its best wishes to the UAE’s leadership, government, and people. It also instructed organisations to implement the guideline and ensure that everything functions properly over the holiday.
