Russia – China performed a “long-range joint flight” from the Sea of Japan to the East China Sea amid rising tensions between Tokyo and Beijing, according to the Japanese Defense Ministry.

Japan and South Korea responded by scrambling their jets to watch the Russian and Chinese air forces: two Russian Tu-95 nuclear-capable strategic bombers and two Chinese H-6 bombers. Four Chinese J-16 fighters joined the remainder of the bombers on their flight between Japan’s Okinawa and Miyako islands.

“The United States-Japan Alliance is stronger and more unified than ever.” Our commitment to our ally Japan is solid, and we maintain constant contact on this and other topics.”

However, China stated that the training and exercise activities were carried out in a safe and restricted manner while adhering to international law.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi sparked a controversy last month when she made hypothetical remarks on how Tokyo may respond if China invaded Taiwan.

Beijing has demanded that she withdraw her words, accusing Tokyo of threatening it militarily and warning nationals not to visit Japan.

According to reports from Reuters, Trump called Takaichi last month and begged her not to aggravate the situation.
