Trump Hints at Wider Ukraine Peace Deal After White House Meeting

US President Donald Trump has hinted that a future accord to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict may include more European nations than simply Ukraine. His comments followed a meeting with a top Russian diplomat at the White House on Thursday.

Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he expected a “big agreement” and that he expected it. However, he did not disclose the specifics of his conversation with the Russian guest.

Trump also suggested that the planned agreement may have a broader scope. He stated that it may encompass all of Europe, implying that discussions to resolve the crisis could extend beyond the two countries actually at war.

The Russian representative appeared to be Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Dmitriev was in Washington for an event involving US First Lady Melania Trump.

Trump Ukraine Peace Deal Could Involve Europe

In describing the White House meeting, Trump referred to the guest as “the head of Russia.” He did not disclose the specifics of their talk, but indicated any deal would encompass more than just Ukraine.

His statements came after conversations with representatives from the United States, NATO, and Europe. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and US envoy, praised the negotiations as constructive and substantial.

Kushner released an update on X on Thursday. He stated that the goal was to meet both sides’ security concerns through realistic measures that were agreed upon by all parties. He also stated that such actions should lessen the likelihood of another confrontation in the future.

The meetings preceded another round of negotiations scheduled for the following week in Abu Dhabi. Representatives from Ukraine and Russia are expected to participate.

Meanwhile, doubts regarding Trump’s attitude to Moscow continue to be raised in the peace process discussion. Democrats and some Republicans have already criticized him for exhibiting too much regard for Putin.

When reporters pressed Trump about Russian strikes on Ukrainian citizens, he also mentioned Ukrainian operations. He also claimed that others had been slain “the other way.” His statement did not provide more information regarding the attacks.

Trump Ukraine Peace Deal Follows Melania’s Truce Effort

A recent six-day ceasefire including the evacuation of residents from Oleshky, a Ukrainian town under Russian control, was another topic of discussion at the White House gathering on Thursday. Melania Trump brought Ukrainian authorities together for talks and assisted in mediating the cease-fire.

Dmitriev expressed gratitude to the US first lady for her “distinguished humanitarian role.” He said that Putin personally gave orders during the operation and thanked Melania.

Additionally, the Russian ambassador is in charge of the country’s principal governmental investment fund. He has also been in charge of the Kremlin’s attempts to offer the Trump administration commercial deals. Requests for the fund’s sanctions to be lifted have also been made during those conversations.

The White House event was also attended by Ukrainian delegates. They included Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman, and Davyd Arakhamia, the leader of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s party’s legislative fraction.

Melania’s efforts on the truce were commended by Arakhamia, who also urged her to keep helping the Ukrainian people. He also urged her to make more steps to ease tensions.

Representatives from Ukraine and Russia came together for a humanitarian effort-focused gathering. Trump’s remarks also hinted at a potential broader deal involving Europe.

The specifics of any potential settlement are yet unknown, though. As efforts to resolve the conflict continue, officials from Kyiv and Moscow are anticipated to meet at the next talks in Abu Dhabi.
