According to Mayor Zohran Mamdani, US President Donald Trump has decided to provide a visa to the mother of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy who was fatally murdered in New York. The visa would enable the teenager’s mother to visit the United States and say farewell to her son in person.
Mamdani revealed the development Saturday after chatting with Trump over the phone. He stated that the president agreed to provide the visa immediately. However, the White House did not immediately confirm the decision when contacted for comment.
On Thursday morning, Frimpong was slain while walking to school in the Bronx. According to police, he was shot in the abdomen just before 9:30 a.m. and died later that day at a hospital.
There had been no arrests at the time of the story, and the inquiry into the teenager’s death remained ongoing.
Trump Visa Decision Follows Bronx Teen’s Death
In a post on X, Mamdani revealed the details of the discussion with Trump. He discussed the suffering that Frimpong’s family endured and stated that the boy’s mother ought to have one more opportunity to see her son.
The mayor said that the teen’s passing was being lamented in New York City. His statement was aimed at assisting the family in getting back together during a trying time after the murder.
According to US Representative Ritchie Torres, a Democrat who represents the Bronx, Frimpong relocated from Ghana to the Bronx around a year ago in order to join his father and begin a new life in the United States.
Additionally, Torres affirmed that the adolescent was shot while en route to school. The lawmaker bemoaned the death of a young individual whose life had been cut short in his own post on X.
According to him, kids in the Bronx need to be allowed to go to school without worrying about their safety. Torres also mentioned Frimpong’s father Thomas’s anguish when his son passed away.
While the shooting’s circumstances are still being looked into, the family has been devastated by the death. The boy’s mother may be able to come from Ghana to attend to the family’s loss according to the stated visa deal.
Ghana Officials Coordinate With US Authorities
Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, stated that Ghanaian officials in New York were cooperating with local authorities following the teenager’s death.
Ablakwa further stated that the country’s foreign ministry will cooperate with US authorities to ensure justice. His allegation indicated that Ghanaian officials were engaged in the aftermath of the crime.
The visa announcement comes as the Trump administration has adopted a harsher stance on immigration during the president’s second term. This strategy has included stopping visa processing in 75 countries.
Although Mamdani said Trump had agreed to give the visa, the White House did not immediately confirm the agreement. As a result, the mayor of New York made the statement, claiming to have talked with the president directly.
Meanwhile, authorities had not made any arrests in Frimpong’s death, and the matter was still being investigated. The report contained no more information on the culprit or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
For Frimpong’s family, the reported visa decision opens the prospect of his mother visiting New York to say farewell. The inquiry into the 15-year-old’s death continues as Ghanaian officials work with local authorities.
