UAE President Jokes About Fight Training With Injured Pilot Smit Machchhar

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan shared a light-hearted moment with injured Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar during an award ceremony honouring the flydubai crew for their courage and professionalism. The President checked on Machchhar’s recovery and joked that he would give him fighting lessons once he had healed.

Machchhar attended the event wearing stitches on his head and a sling on his left arm. He was one of the flydubai crew members recognized for assisting in the prevention of a terrorist attack on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv.

The President’s warm interaction with the pilot attracted attention online. Their discourse shifted from Machchhar’s ailments to a fun offer of exercising together, which made both of them giggle.

UAE President Meets Injured Pilot Smit Machchhar

During their encounter, Machchhar hugged Sheik Mohamed and said it was an honor to meet him. The President then checked the pilot’s evident injuries on his head and inquired as to his projected recovery time.

Machchhar said that he could require around two months to recuperate. Referring to the sling on his arm, the President advised scheduling a session to teach him how to fight after he recovered.

The exchange concluded in laughing. Machchhar again conveyed his thanks by placing his palm over his heart.

The President also expressed reassurance to the flydubai personnel and passengers. He referred to them as family and stated that the UAE will continue to provide them with assistance and a place to call home.

The encounter occurred after the UAE acknowledged the crew’s responsiveness following a critical event aboard the plane. Machchhar’s apparent injuries served as a reminder of what he had undergone during the voyage.

UAE Honours Flydubai Crew After Cockpit Attack

The celebration honored the crew’s bravery, professionalism, and dedication to passenger safety. Machchhar and his fellow Flydubai crew members received the First Class Order of Zayed II from Sheik Mohamed.

Sheik Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense, gave out the honors. He commended the staff for their commitment to their work and feeling of duty.

Sheik Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs, was among the other high-ranking officials present. There was also Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who is in charge of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and has key positions at Dubai Airports and Emirates Airline and Group.

Machchhar was hurt after his co-pilot, Hamam Al Hammami, attacked him in the cockpit. The pilot had a complex depressed skull fracture after being hit by a cockpit crash ax.

Flydubai Flight FZ 1073 was carrying over 170 people, including 24 children, on its journey from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The aircraft plunged about 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds after the strike.

Crash axs are kept in the cockpits of commercial airplanes for use in an emergency. Following the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001, these tools were relocated from the main cabin to the cockpit.

The crew’s actions throughout the trip were acknowledged at the UAE ceremony. The President’s cordial conversation with Machchhar brought a human touch to the event, even though the prizes demonstrated their expertise and dedication to passenger safety.
