Israel West Bank Crossings : Israel has approved the closing of all land borders into the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, when parliamentary elections are scheduled. Following a fatal attack on two Israeli soldiers in Hebron, Palestinian labourers will be barred from entering Israeli settlements throughout the West Bank and Jordan Valley.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced the steps on Sunday, claiming the decision had been approved by Israel’s political leadership. The limitations will be in place on voting day, with specific prohibitions on Palestinian workers imposed on Sunday and Monday.
The decision comes as Israeli forces continue military operations across the West Bank after Palestinian gunmen killed two soldiers and injured three others on Friday. The two suspected attackers, who were from Hebron, were also killed.
Israel West Bank Crossings to Close on October 27
The Israeli military said that all land borders between Israel and the West Bank will be blocked to Palestinians during Tuesday’s election. The action is part of a larger lockdown planned for the seized territories for the parliamentary vote.
Palestinian labourers will be barred from accessing Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Jordan Valley on Sunday and Monday. The military stated that exclusions would apply to industrial zones and a small number of other designated sites.
The limits were imposed in response to a suggestion made by Israel’s security establishment and supported by the country’s political leadership. During the election period, the measures apply to both land crossing mobility and settlement access.
The military did not give any information in the notification regarding how the restrictions will effect particular crossings other than confirming their closure on election day.
Israel West Bank Operation Displaces Hebron Residents
The poll limitations come as Israeli soldiers continue to operate in the West Bank following Friday’s incident near Hebron. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that around 2,000 Palestinians had been evacuated from their homes in the city.
Katz told Israeli network Kan that certain army troops were working in the region. He also added that displaced Palestinians would not be allowed to return to their areas until all Hamas-related issues in Hebron were settled.
Mayor Yousef al-Jabari of Hebron estimated the displacement to be higher. He previously told Al Jazeera that approximately 2,200 people have been displaced from their houses since Israeli raids began on Friday.
During counter-terrorism operations, the Israeli military claimed to have collaborated with border police and intelligence services. These initiatives included over 40 sites and 400 places throughout the West Bank.
The military said roughly 40 people had been apprehended, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad members. The notification provided no additional information concerning the identity of individuals detained.
The closure of crossings and restrictions on workers will coincide with Tuesday’s parliamentary election. Meanwhile, military operations and the displacement of residents continue to shape the situation around Hebron and other parts of the West Bank.
