Freddie Slater to Make F1 Debut in Mexico GP Practice for Audi

Later this month, British driver Freddie Slater, 18, will participate in the opening practice for the Mexican Grand Prix, which will be his first time operating a Formula One vehicle. As part of the team’s driver development program, he will represent Audi throughout the session.

Slater finished second in his maiden Formula Three season this year, demonstrating his growth in junior racing. He will have the chance to get expertise driving a Formula One car thanks to his impending F1 appearance.

Additionally, Audi has scheduled a second practice session for the teenager for the early November Brazilian Grand Prix. As Slater gets ready for the next phase of his racing career, the two sessions will provide him with additional exposure to F1 machinery.

In advance of this weekend’s US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, the news was made on Thursday.

Freddie Slater Gets Audi F1 Practice Opportunity

Slater will make his debut during the Mexican Grand Prix’s first practice session. The British adolescent is already enrolled in Audi’s driver development program, which helps him advance through the racing ranks.

One significant outcome in his junior career was his second-place finish in Formula Three during his rookie season. He will now participate in two Formula One practice sessions, one in Mexico and the other in Brazil.

Allan McNish, director of Audi Racing, stated that Slater’s next move was timely. He also emphasised how the scheduled appearances would provide the rookie driver with experience.

Slater would gain useful experience from the seminars in Mexico and Brazil, according to McNish. Beyond the two practice sessions, the team has not disclosed any other information regarding his involvement.

Slater will thus have his first opportunity to drive an F1 car during an official practice session at the Mexican Grand Prix. He will have another chance soon after his debut in Brazil in early November.

Freddie Slater Eyes Formula Two for 2027

According to the release, Slater is anticipated to participate in Formula Two next year. Prior to his anticipated transition into the next tier of junior single-seater racing, he has scheduled practice appearances in Formula One.

A runner-up result in his inaugural Formula Three season is part of the teenager’s current record. Although the announcement does not guarantee a future race spot in the championship, his planned trips with Audi will add Formula One practice experience to his racing credentials.

The two sessions will take place on different Grand Prix weekends. Before going back to the track for his first session in early November in Brazil, Slater is scheduled to drive in Mexico later this month.

Additionally, the announcement coincides with Formula One’s preparation for the US Grand Prix in Austin. Slater’s scheduled debut in Mexico is preceded by the race weekend at the Circuit of the Americas.

Slater sees the forthcoming sessions as a chance to continue growing as a young driver and get a taste of an F1 car. His races in Mexico and Brazil will be the next planned steps in his racing career, with a potential Formula Two campaign coming up next year.
