On Saturday, Delhi Police said that Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke will be brought before a special executive magistrate court while continuing in preventive arrest. Meanwhile, Neha Bora, president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), has been released after being detained in connection with the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march.
The two detentions occurred as police prepared for the scheduled march in the national capital. Dipke was stopped on Friday while heading to Connaught Place to participate in the march. Bora was also arrested when he approached Mandi House.
Dipke was detained under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in 2023, according to police. A new lawsuit has also been filed against him in connection with Friday’s event on the grounds of breaching public order.
Abhijeet Dipke Detention Case Moves to Court
Dipke was supposed to meet with a special executive magistrate on Saturday, according to Delhi Police. The court will decide the next stages in the case, including whether he should be freed on bond or stay in detention.
Dipke had earlier been imprisoned alongside Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka before to a CJP rally at Jantar Mantar. The event was intended to protest Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The three were eventually released after signing a bond vowing not to engage in activities that would disrupt peace and serenity for a year.
However, Das and Ranka were detained again after attending another demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The place was withdrawn off the list of permitted protest locations days after the CJP demonstration against Kumar ended due to a police raid.
Das and Ranka are still in court detention, according to the source report. The magistrate court is considering Dipke’s legal status in light of his most recent imprisonment and a new case.
Neha Bora Released After Delhi Police Detention
AISA president Neha Bora was freed after the necessary custody procedures under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act were completed. She had been arrested while heading to Mandi House for the Tiranga Yatra.
Bora attacked the central government upon her release and questioned police tactics against demonstrators. She thanked everyone who had stood with her during the event and stated that AISA will continue its fight until the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral records was withdrawn.
Bora said that the administration had exceeded the boundaries of law and illegality. She also questioned why demonstrators were jailed and released frequently, claiming that such tactics were designed to instill fear in regular people.
Her comments came after police arrested people in connection with the planned march. Dipke’s incarceration and Bora’s release illustrate divergent outcomes for two opposition-linked activists involved in the same protest-related events.
Dipke was scheduled to appear before the magistrate court, when the next decision on his custody would be made. Bora, however, stated that her organization’s battle against the SIR exercise would continue.
