Elon Musk Gives $276 Million to GOP Groups Before US Midterms

Elon Musk gave $276 million to Republican political organisations over three months, bringing his total contributions to $366 million as the United States enters the 2026 midterm elections. The expenditure puts the tech tycoon back in the spotlight of Republican fundraising ahead of the November election.

The donations, made between July and September, went to groups that assist Republican candidates for the US Senate and House of Representatives, as well as state-level political organisations. A representative for Musk’s America PAC verified the statistics.

Musk’s recent contributions contradict his past statements that he intended to minimise his political expenditures. His increased financial commitment might give significant assistance to Republican campaigns during the midterm election season.

Elon Musk Donations Boost Republican Election Groups

Musk contributed $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund during a three-month period. The political action group promotes Republican candidates for the United States Senate.

An additional $20 million went to the Congressional Leadership Fund, which supports Republican House candidates. Musk also donated over $76 million to America PAC, a political organization he founded during the 2024 presidential election campaign.

His other contributions included $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC, which backs Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton. The Republican Governors Association earned an additional $10 million, while the Republican Attorneys General Association received $2 million.

These payments cover the principal gifts listed in the reported numbers. Musk’s total contributions have now surpassed $366 million, making him the biggest known donor in the 2026 midterm elections, according to the article.

Andrew Romeo, America PAC’s spokesperson, justified the spending in a statement. He said that the funding had helped Republican groups promote their message and participate in elections.

Romeo also cautioned that Democratic victory in Washington and important state elections might alter the country’s political trajectory. His remarks echoed the political rationale employed by the organization to justify its fundraising efforts.

Elon Musk Donations Continue Despite Earlier Spending Pledge

Musk became heavily involved in US politics during the 2024 election campaign, when he contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Throughout the campaign, he appeared beside Trump.

After Trump entered office, Musk oversaw the Department of Government Efficiency, the administration’s cost-cutting drive. The initiative sparked debate due to significant losses in federal jobs and government financing.

Musk departed from the White House in late May 2025. His resignation came after a period in the government and was accompanied by a public disagreement with Trump. Musk had a low political profile for several months.

In May, he stated that he intended to spend far less money on politics. During a July interview with The Economist, he admitted that he had grown overly interested in politics.

Musk did, however, return to election-related funding in July, authorising America PAC to commit between $100 million and $120 million to a field operation aimed at increasing conservative voter turnout in the 2026 midterm elections.

His connection with Trump has improved after their public feud. Musk also joined the president on a state visit to China in May, according to the article.

With $276 million in contributions recorded from July to September, Musk’s new spending demonstrates that his involvement in Republican politics has not abated, despite his earlier commitment to reduce it. The gifts come as both parties prepare for November’s midterm elections.
