Nana Patekar Death: Goa Police Register Unnatural Death Case, Post-Mortem Held

Nana Patekar, 75, died on Thursday morning after suffering a serious heart arrest at his Goa bungalow. He was discovered unresponsive at his house in Dona Paula and rushed to a hospital, where doctors proclaimed him dead.

Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department of Manipal Hospital, stated that Patekar died about 5:20 a.m. Doctors tried continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for nearly 45 minutes but couldn’t save him.

His death prompted the filing of a medico-legal case. Dr. Salkar stated that a post-mortem examination will be performed, while further information is awaited.

Patekar’s son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the death and stated that the family had departed for Goa. The actor had been there for some personal job.

Malhar stated that his lifeless remains will be sent to Pune after midday.

The news marks the end of a film career that spanned several decades. Patekar performed widely in Hindi and Marathi movies, earning a reputation for his aggressive acting technique and distinct screen presence.

His filmography includes Parinda, Krantiveer, Angaar, Tirangaa, Agnisakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Shakti, Apaharan, and Raajneeti. He has gained a large commercial audience for his humorous portrayal as Uday Shetty in Welcome and its sequel, Welcome Back.

Vishwanath Patekar, born on January 1, 1951 in Murud-Janjira, Maharashtra, entered the film profession following a rough upbringing. His family struggled financially, so he began working at an early age.

In his early years in Mumbai, he worked as a film poster painter in the Chunabhatti region, earning roughly Rs 35 per month. His film career started with the 1978 film Gaman.

Parinda’s arrival in 1989 marked a significant shift. His performance got him a National Film Award as well as a Filmfare Award. He went on to become one of the few actors to collect Filmfare Awards for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Villain.

His work in Krantiveer also garnered considerable attention. He received the National picture Award for Best Actor for his role in the 1994 picture. He also won National Film Awards for his roles in Agnisakshi and Parinda.

Patekar worked as a director and writer in both Marathi and Hindi films. His performances ranged from serious drama to popular comedy, with Uday Shetty being one of his most well-known commercial personas.

With his passing aged 75, the film industry and his admirers have lost an actor whose career spanned decades and featured work in multiple genres and languages. Following the medico-legal procedure, a post-mortem examination is expected to reveal additional information.
