Abu Dhabi Fog :  On Tuesday morning, dense fog covered parts of Abu Dhabi, decreasing visibility and leading authorities to impose temporary speed restrictions on several main highways. The National Center of Meteorology issued a fog notice, which was in effect until 9 a.m.

Abu Dhabi Police deployed fog-related speed-reduction equipment on many routes, lowering the temporary speed restriction to 80km/h. Motorists were advised to pay particular attention to road signs and electronic information boards when driving in low-visibility regions.

Temporary limits were implemented when visibility conditions became worse. Police advised vehicles to adhere to the varied limits posted on the roadways rather than proceeding at their typical pace.

Abu Dhabi Fog Brings 80km/h Speed Limit on Major Roads

The decreased speed restriction included three major roadways in the emirate. The restriction was in place on Sweihan Road between the Al Hayer and Nahel bypasses.

The 80km/h speed restriction was also enforced on Sheik Tahnoun Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan Road between Masaken and Al Hayer. Nahel Road, which connects Nahel to Bid Bint Saud, was also included.

The fog speed reduction system enables authorities to adjust speed restrictions in response to visibility conditions on impacted routes. When the system is triggered, radars are set to their temporary limit.

This means that motorists who exceed the posted limit may face a fine. As a result, police have urged drivers to keep an eye on changing speed restrictions and follow the advice displayed on signs and electronic boards.

Weather conditions triggered general road safety warnings. Reduced horizontal visibility can make it difficult for drivers to see other cars and road conditions, necessitating extra caution.

Abu Dhabi Fog Safety Advice for Motorists

When driving in fog, police advise drivers to maintain enough space between themselves and the car in front of them. Drivers were also advised to use low-beam headlights for better visibility.

In such situations, sudden lane changes are not recommended. Police also cautioned motorists not to use warning lights while driving.

The temporary limits are intended to adjust to changing visibility rather than being static regardless of conditions. Drivers on the impacted routes should consequently pay attention to the most recent speed information provided along their route.

Motorists were also urged to check official police and meteorological outlets for updates before departing. Foggy conditions can have an impact on driving conditions and journey durations, thus extra travel time is recommended.

The fog alert remained in effect until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, and Abu Dhabi Police urged vehicles to proceed with caution on routes with poor visibility. Drivers passing through the impacted regions must adhere to the temporary speed limitations and road safety guidelines.
