Trump Approval Rating Falls to New Second-Term Low in NBC News Poll

The Trump approval rating has fallen to a new low for his second term, according to a new NBC News poll. The survey found that more Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump’s performance as concerns over the rising cost of food, goods and gasoline continue to shape voters’ views ahead of the November midterm elections.

The poll was taken from September 11 to 15 among 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus three percentage points.

Trump Approval Rating Drops as Economic Concerns Rise

The survey found that 56% of registered voters disapprove of Trump’s performance as president, while 41% approve. The results show Trump’s lowest second-term finish in NBC News polling.

Economic issues also differed significantly from earlier this year. About 55% of voters think Trump’s policies have harmed the economy. This figure was 48% when the same question was asked in March.

The growing cost of basic products is a top concern for voters in the survey. As Americans appraised the state of the economy, they noted costs such as food, consumer goods, and petrol.

The findings come as voters choose which party they want to dominate Congress following the November midterm elections.

Democrats Hold an Edge in Congressional Preference

When asked which party they would prefer to dominate Congress following the midterm elections, Americans gave Democrats a 50% to 45% advantage over Republicans.

However, that difference is smaller than the Democratic lead recorded at a similar stage prior to the 2018 midterm elections, which occurred during Trump’s first term.

At the same time, neither major political party garnered widespread approval from voters. Approximately 36% of respondents had a positive opinion of the Republican Party, while 49% saw it unfavourably.

The Democratic Party scored more unfavourable than good scores. Around 29% of voters stated they had a positive opinion of the party, while 50% had a negative one.

Trump and his actions are also having a significant impact on how voters are approaching the 2017 elections. According to the poll, more voters than at any time in the previous three decades of NBC News midterm polling perceive their voting as a vehicle to express their disapproval to the president.

That attitude was not confined to voters from a single party. Nearly half of independent voters had similar sentiments about their choice.

With the November elections approaching, the poll emphasises the importance of economic worries and the president’s views in how registered voters are evaluating their options.

The survey gives a snapshot of voter sentiment based on interviews conducted between September 11 and September 15.
