Shakti Sharma Air Vice Marshal: IAF Education Branch Gets First Woman Officer at This Rank

Shakti Sharma Air Vice Marshal is the first woman officer from the non-medical branch of the Indian Armed Forces to earn the rank of Air Vise Marshal. She has also been appointed Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Education) at Air Headquarters.

On June 18, 1994, Sharma began working for the Indian Air Force Education Branch. She has spent the majority of her career working in military education and training.

Shakti Sharma Air Vice Marshal Takes Charge of Education Role

Sharma’s new role will include overseeing education and training-related activities within the Indian Air Force. Her professional experience has included positions at air bases, training institutions, Command Headquarters, and Air Headquarters.

Her work has also emphasized strengthening ties between the military and educational institutions. Sharma was instrumental in establishing IAF Chairs of Excellence at IIT Kanpur and Pune University, hence fostering tighter collaboration between military and academic institutions.

Her extensive experience in the Education Branch has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of training, academic programs, and the importance of education in the armed forces.

Shakti Sharma Air Vice Marshal Had Earlier Made History

Sharma’s promotion to Air Vise Marshal is not her first unprecedented accomplishment. Prior to this role, she was the first woman officer from any of the three services of the Indian Armed Forces to serve as Principal of a Sainik School.

She directed Sainik School Kapurthala, a CBSE-accredited residential school. Academics, discipline, leadership, and preparing pupils for future prospects, including military service, are all priorities at the school.

During her tenure as principal, Sharma worked directly with pupils and encouraged them to seek careers in the defense forces.

More Than Three Decades in the Air Force

Sharma has been with the Indian Air Force since 1994, serving for more than three decades. Her career has been predominantly associated with education, training, and intellectual collaboration.

Her most recent appointment elevates her experience to a senior level at Air Headquarters. As Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Education), she would be in charge of all education and training activities within the Indian Air Force.
