Washington, DC [US]: The US government has sent a medical vessel to Greenland to help with local healthcare needs, President Donald Trump stated on Saturday .
The expedition is being planned with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry to address the region’s medical concerns.
Trump’s post came hours after Denmark’s Joint Arctic Command announced the evacuation of a crew member from a U.S. submarine in Greenland’s waters, located seven nautical miles from Nuuk.
It was unclear what Landry’s involvement was in the matter, or whether the post was related to the evacuation.
The United States Navy has two medical ships, the Mercy and the Comfort, however neither is stationed in Louisiana.
US President Trump acknowledged on Truth Social
The President acknowledged on Truth Social that the marine effort is currently in development.
He stated that the government is “working with the fantastic Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, to send a great hospital boat to Greenland to take care of the many people who are sick and not being treated there.” It’s on its way!”

The digital message was accompanied with a visual image of the USNS Mercy, a well-known navy hospital ship.
This humanitarian measure comes after the President appointed Landry as special envoy to the Arctic territory in December.
Responding via the social media platform X, the Louisiana Governor expressed gratitude, noting that he is “proud to work” alongside the President on “this important issue.”
The nature of the health issue and the mission’s actual objectives are yet unknown.
Major agencies, including the Pentagon, the US Navy, NORTHCOM, and the Danish Embassy, have been asked for clarification, but no formal details have yet been released.
The deployment follows a shift in diplomatic tone.
During conversations with NATO’s secretary general last month, the President stated that he had “formed the framework of a future deal” over Greenland.
This came after a period of high tension in which his continued interest in the semi-autonomous Danish island caused tensions within European diplomatic circles.
