UPI Payments System Update : You will no longer be able to make UPI payments by entering your UPI ID or mobile number. NPCI has implemented significant changes to improve the security and speed of digital payments. Until now, when making an online payment, one had to manually enter the UPI ID or cellphone number, which was known as ‘UPI Collect’. For the most part, this method is no longer used.
According to sources, instead of this choice, users will be able to immediately click on the payment app’s icon or scan the QR code. This will not only make payments easier, but it will also improve the security of online transactions. This adjustment was set to take effect on February 28, 2026.
What is UPI Collect?
This was an online payment option in which the buyer manually provided their UPI ID or mobile number (if the same was used for the UPI ID). The app or website then requested that the payment app deduct the money.
The user then typed their PIN into the payment app and made the payment. This approach was termed UPI Collect since the app or website that accepted the payment sent a message to the payment app in order to receive the payment.
UPI Payments System Update : How will you make payments now?
This procedure is now much easy. Starting February 28, 2026, most places will accept payments via a UPI app icon or QR code. To make a payment, click the app icon, which will open the app immediately on your phone. When you select the QR code, a QR code will appear, which you can scan to complete your transaction.
