Washington: President Donald Trump blasted the Supreme Court’s recent tariff decision on Saturday, claiming that it could result in “ripping off” the United States of billions of dollars.
He also hinted at requesting a rehearing in the matter.
Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social
“The recent ruling by the United States Supreme Court regarding TARIFFS could allow for the return of hundreds of billions of dollars to nations and businesses that have been “ripping off” the United States of America for many years, and now, according to this Decision, could actually continue to do so, at an even increased level,” the US president wrote in a post on Truth Social. The Supreme Court probably didn’t have this in mind!
It is incomprehensible that nations and corporations that exploited us for decades, obtaining billions of dollars that they were not entitled to, would now be entitled to an unmerited “windfall,” the likes of which the world has never witnessed, as a result of this incredibly disheartening, to put it mildly, decision. Is it feasible for this case to be reheard or readjudicated?
His declaration comes after the US Supreme Court ruled against the majority of President Trump’s sweeping tariff measures last week. Trump later issued an executive order imposing a 10% global tariff on all countries, beginning “almost immediately”.

The Court found 6-3 that the government exceeded its jurisdiction by imposing broad-based import tariffs under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), reaffirming that Congress has the primary authority to levy taxes.

Following the verdict, Trump imposed a new 10% worldwide tax on all countries under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, presenting it as a temporary import surcharge (up to 15%) for 150 days to address balance-of-payments deficits.
He later boosted it to the “fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level,” which took effect immediately.
Trump said in a Truth Social post that this change addresses the Supreme Court’s “ridiculous, poorly written, and extraordinarily anti-American decision,” and that his administration will decide on new, legally acceptable tariffs in the upcoming months to keep “Making America Great Again.”
