Terrorist attack at Bondi Beach : Panic gripped Sydney’s renowned Bondi Beach on Sunday evening as two gunmen opened fire at 6:30 p.m. (local time), sending onlookers fleeing for cover. During the turmoil, an unarmed bystander demonstrated incredible courage by overwhelming one of the attackers, an act that has since gone viral on social media.
A 15-second video that has circulated online depicts the dramatic moment. The video shows the man first take cover behind parked cars before rushing towards one of the attackers, who was concealed behind a tree. From behind, the bystander grabs the attacker’s neck, wrestles him to the ground, grabs his weapon, and fires multiple shots at him. The gunman is seen lying low, as the brave civilian aims the rifle back at him, stopping any more threat.
The attacker, while being hurt, managed to depart the scene when the weapon appeared to run out of ammunition. The man who overpowered him then concealed the weapon behind a tree. Moments thereafter, several witnesses were seen throwing stones at the perpetrator and chasing him off.

The shooter was identified as Naveed Akram.
According to a top law enforcement officer, Naveed Akram was one of the alleged shooters in the tragic attacks on Bondi Beach in Sydney. Akram, a man from the city’s south-west, is suspected of carrying out an attack on Australia’s famed beach, which was filled with people on a busy weekend.
According to Australian officials, police stormed Akram’s residence in the neighborhood of Bonnyrigg on Sunday evening.
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon stated that one of the shooters was known to authorities, but added that “the person that we know has very, very little knowledge to the police”.
“So he’s not someone that we would have automatically been looking at this time,” stated the officer.
Akram’s driver’s licence, discovered at the scene, listed him as 24 years old, born on August 12, 2001.
According to his Facebook profile, which The Jerusalem Post reviewed, he attended Central Queensland University in Sydney and Hamdard University in Islamabad. He also went to the Al Murad Institute, where he was regarded as a model student. His social media presence gave no indication of his ideas or ideological leanings.
Terrorist attack at Bondi Beach
On Sunday, two gunmen opened fire on a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney’s Bondi Beach, killing at least 11 people in what Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called an act of antisemitic terrorism that struck at the heart of the country. According to New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon, at least 29 additional people were hurt, including two police officers.
Police shot one of the attackers dead, while the second was detained and is in severe condition. Authorities claimed one of the gunmen was previously known to security agencies, but there was no particular threat warning prior to the attack. Police have yet to confirm which of the individuals was identified as Naveed.

The Associated Press said that investigators discovered suspicious materials, including several improvised explosive devices, in a vehicle related to one of the gunmen.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the incident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. local time at the Chanukah by the Sea event, which had hundreds of guests.
The attack on one of Australia’s most famed beaches comes amid a spike in antisemitic crimes around the country over the last year, however officials have made no direct connection between those instances and Sunday’s gunshot. It is the bloodiest mass shooting in Australia in nearly 30 years, despite the country’s strong gun control legislation.
