Tehran [Iran]: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has blamed the prolonged fighting and casualties in the region on American policy, claiming that the US has complete responsibility for the current scenario.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the envoy harshly criticised Washington’s participation in the regional crises. “The US is fully responsible for the bloodshed,” Araghchi stated.
Amidst the current tension in West Asia, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh severely lambasted US President Donald Trump, questioning Washington’s position on Iran’s political destiny.
Khatibzadeh said
Khatibzadeh said it was amusing that the US president talks about shaping Iran’s leadership when he has no control over local political appointments in the US.
He criticised the American leadership’s stance to Tehran, citing a “colonial” inconsistency in US policy.President Trump is calling for a leadership transition in Iran, but he can’t even appoint New York’s mayor. Can you image the colonial approach? While he wants to see democracy at home, he wants to overthrow Iran’s democratically elected president,” the Iranian leader stated.

Furthermore, Khatibzadeh denied that Iran had closed the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, stating that Tehran continues to operate as a stabilising influence in the Gulf despite the intensifying conflict with Israel and the United States.
He emphasised that, despite rising tensions, Tehran remains a responsible force in the Gulf, noting, “Iran is an anchor of stability in the Strait of Hormuz.” We will make an announcement if we decide to close the Strait of Hormuz. We haven’t closed it. “We are a responsible power.”
The Iranian minister, who also serves as President of Tehran’s Institute for Political and International Studies, distinguished between regional diplomatic methods. “India and Iran share a chess mentality that differs from the American football mentality.” He stated that diplomacy is the only choice.

Khatibzadeh addressed policymakers and diplomats in New Delhi, clarifying Tehran’s present maritime stance: “We have not yet closed the Strait of Hormuz.” We do not intend to do so until further notice.
He highlighted Iran as a vital guarantor of maritime stability in the Persian Gulf, adding, “We are an anchor of stability, because we are there and also using that.” He insisted that Iran remains committed to international law and freedom of navigation, implying that it is the United States that has jeopardised maritime security.
The Deputy Foreign Minister referred to the ongoing confrontation as a “existential war,” accusing the US and Israel of conducting an invasion against Tehran based on “flat lies” and the “delusion of a Greater Israel.”
During the Raisina Dialogue 2026, Khatibzadeh said that the offensive against his country was unjustified and breached global standards.
“What Americans and Israelis are doing today violates international law and conventions. Iran made no provocative moves. “My country is being attacked based on flat lies that Iran was posing a threat,” he stated.
The Iranian minister questioned the motivations behind the military move, blaming it on regional power dynamics. “It is crucial to understand why the Americans and Israelis began their war against Iran. If you ask the American administration this question, the replies will vary depending on the market and audience. Khatibzadeh added that they did this because of power politics and the fantasy of a ‘Greater Israel.
Khatibzadeh defended Iran’s military expansion, stating that it is acting in self-defence and threatening retaliation against foreign strikes. This is an existential battle against Iran, and their goal is to eliminate Iran’s existence. We are conducting a noble, nationalistic war to drive back the aggressors. “We have no choice but to strike wherever the Americans are launching their attack,” the minister told the gathering.
He further claimed that “false-flag operations” were being utilised to escalate the conflict, maintaining that Tehran is striving to prevent a larger regional spillover.
Khatibzadeh criticised the targeting of state officials as a dangerous precedent in international relations. When they assassinate the head of another state. Should a head of state be targeted when there is a dispute between countries? This is an unprecedented situation. “If this is the new norm, it is extremely dangerous,” he added.
According to the Iranian Minister, those who launched the hostilities bear responsibility for their resolution.
“The ball is in the court of the person who initiated the aggression. If they stop being aggressive today, we will be defending rather than offending. Diplomacy is the only option available to all countries. “I seriously doubt that this administration understands the value of diplomacy and dialogue,” he added.
