This diplomatic campaign comes after Washington issued a harsh warning. On Tuesday, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth warned Russia not to intervene in the current battle in West Asia, especially as tensions between Iran, the US, and Israel rise.

During a Pentagon briefing, Hegseth referred to a recent “strong call” between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Putin.
He pointed out that, while the call showed a “opportunity for some peace” in the Ukraine conflict, it also featured a definite “recognition” that Russia “should not be involved” in the Iran dispute.
The Kremlin confirmed the interaction, with advisor Yuri Ushakov describing the conversation as “businesslike, open, and constructive”.
According to reports, President Trump initiated the call to address the most recent international developments, with an emphasis on both the Iran situation and probable trilateral negotiations between Washington, Moscow, and Kiev.
Following his conversation with the US, President Putin had a lengthy talk with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
The two presidents discussed the “escalation in the Middle East,” which the Kremlin blamed on “the US and Israel’s armed aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
These high-level discussions follow a series of previous encounters between Moscow and Riyadh. On March 9, Lavrov and his Saudi counterpart “compared notes” on key issues such as Syria, Yemen, and the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.
The two countries have committed to maintain “close coordination” in order to pursue a “sustainable settlement” through conversation based on “stakeholders’ legitimate interests and concerns”.
