Mumbai (Maharashtra): The social drama “Chiraiya” will star actors Divya Dutta and Sanjay Mishra.
JioHotstar, a streaming service, released the project’s trailer on Friday.
The trailer provides a glimpse into the life of Kamlesh, the perfect daughter-in-law of a close-knit family. When Kamlesh learns that her sister-in-law Pooja is being sexually abused in her marriage, her seemingly secure world starts to fall apart.
As harsh truths emerge, “Kamlesh is divided between upholding her family’s dignity and standing up for what is right. What begins as a quiet concern evolves into a profoundly personal battle against deeply ingrained patriarchal views, leading her to examine everything she previously believed in and stood for, all while confronting the difficult reality that consent cannot be presumed, even within marriage.”
Divya, who plays Kamlesh, said in a press release
Divya, who plays Kamlesh, said in a press release, “With Chiraiya, we aren’t just telling a story; we are holding up a mirror to the silences we’ve inherited. Kamlesh is unlike any other character I’ve ever created. She’s a chunk of my heart. She is a lady tied by the ideals she has always held dear, yet she finds herself at a crossroads where her love for family collides with her refusal to accept injustice. Her path is not a loud rebellion; rather, it is a quiet, profound awakening in which a woman chooses dignity over fear.
Playing her shook me because she represents a reality that exists in the recesses of so many houses. I sincerely hope Chiraiya causes us to pause and reconsider the ‘norms’ we have been conditioned to accept. It’s time to start the conversations that have been pending for generations.

Sanjay Mishra said
Sanjay Mishra added, “What makes Chiraiya stand out is its honesty. It depicts characters not as heroes or villains, but as persons influenced by their ideas, background, and fear of judgement. I like how the story reflects the difficult reality within families and emphasises how silence can often be the greatest enabler of injustice. Working with the entire Chiraiya team was an extremely enriching experience, and Divya is an exceptional actor. Being a part of a story that addresses such a pressing societal issue with sensitivity and depth has been genuinely rewarding.”

Director Shashant Shah also discussed his experience overseeing the project.
He stated, “Directing Chiraiya was a very challenging experience for me. From the start, I knew I wanted to create a really human story. What moved me the most was how ordinary this world seems. The film’s discomfort stems not from violent scenes, but from ordinary silences and normalised behaviour that we rarely challenge. As a filmmaker, my obligation was to portray the subject sensitively and truthfully, without sensationalising it. There were days on set when the performances left the entire team speechless because the emotions were so genuine and close to home. Chiraiya is about holding up a mirror rather than pointing fingers. And that, to me, is what makes it so powerful.”
The six-episode series, starring Siddharth Shaw, Prasanna Bisht, Faisal Rashid, Tinnu Anand, Sarita Joshi, and Anjum Saxena, will be released on March 20.
