Indian cricketer Rinku Singh and his family have been devastated. Khachandra Singh, his father, died at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida from stage 4 liver cancer.
In the latter days, his condition had deteriorated. As doctors attempted to stabilise him, he was kept on mechanical ventilator support and received constant renal replacement therapy. His degeneration had been rapid, and he remained under careful medical observation until his death.
Rinku was overseas with the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup when the announcement was made. He had abruptly left the squad and returned home prior to the match against Zimbabwe at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium after learning that his father’s health had deteriorated severely.
Notably, Khachandra had been fighting liver cancer for some time, but his health had suddenly deteriorated, prompting his admission in Greater Noida.
Rinku Singh was dropped from the XI vs Zimbabwe.
Rinku returned quickly to Chennai following a brief visit to see his father. However, the team management changed the combination after Suryakumar Yadav’s side made two changes to the starting XI, leaving Rinku out. Sanju Samson was reinstalled as the opener since the hosts required a right-handed batter at the top of the order. To accommodate the scenario, Ishan Kishan was demoted to third, while Tilak Varma was relegated to finisher.

In contrast, Axar Patel took over for Washington Sundar. Rinku’s availability for the remaining T20 World Cup 2026 is currently unknown. The BCCI has yet to disclose any developments, although more are expected to emerge as the day progresses.
Meanwhile, the Indian squad will head to Kolkata for their most important match against the West Indies. The victor of the match will join South Africa in advancing to the semifinals.
