US: Two Dead, Three Hurt in Shooting at Rhode Island Hockey Arena

US :  CNN reports that a shooting at a hockey arena in Rhode Island, United States, killed two people and injured three more.

One of the casualties was a young girl. CNN claimed, citing law enforcement authorities, that the gunman died of a self-inflicted wound after the attack.

According to police, the gunman appeared to have targeted his own family members.

Governor Dan McKee of Rhode Island stated

Governor Dan McKee of Rhode Island stated that officials are monitoring the issue. He spoke with Mayor Grebien and police officers.

“We are currently watching the shooting at Pawtucket’s Dennis M. Lynch Arena. I just spoke with Mayor Grebien and @RIStatePolice, who are collaborating with local law enforcement. “I’m praying for Pawtucket and everyone involved,” stated Governor Dan McKee on X.

According to CNN, two school student teams were playing hockey in the arena when the tragedy occurred.

The gun violence episode occurred a few months after the shooting at Brown University, which is only a few miles from Rhode Island. In December, a man opened fire at Brown University’s Barus and Holley engineering buildings in Providence, killing two students and injuring nine others, according to CNN.

In a second incident earlier this month, a 16-year-old student was arrested in connection with a shooting at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, according to Montgomery County Police.

According to an update given on X, the Rockville City Police Department is responding to an active incident at Thomas S. Wootton High School. The media will stage at the Korean Presbyterian Church of Rockville, 800 Hurley Ave.”

Police discovered an injured student and transported him to a hospital for treatment, while the accused was arrested.

Outside the arena, emotional family and high school hockey players still in uniform were seen hugging before getting on a bus to leave the area. Roads surrounding the arena were closed as a large police presence remained and helicopters soared overhead.
