PM Modi arrived in Israel on Wednesday for a two-day visit, hoping to reinvigorate bilateral relations. This is Modi’s second visit to Israel in nine years. During Modi’s first visit to Israel in July 2017, the bilateral relationship was elevated to strategic partnership status.
India and Israel have a deep strategic alliance
India and Israel have a strong strategic connection, with collaboration in science and technology, innovation, military and security, trade and investment, agriculture, water, and people-to-people interactions.
India-Israel relations have improved in recent years, particularly in areas such as defence, scientific research, cybersecurity, and innovation. Defence cooperation has developed as an important foundation of the two countries’ partnership, with Israel supplying India with a wide range of military platforms and weapon systems.
The two sides’ trade and investment ties are also steadily improving. During Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s November visit to Israel, the terms of reference (ToR) for the start of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) discussions between India and Israel were signed. In September, the two countries signed a Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) to boost economic relations.
