Pakistan Punjab fuel curbs : Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the chief minister of Punjab province, has proposed a number of steps “to protect the public and manage resources responsibly” in response to the impact of the West Asian crisis.

The extraordinary measures include suspending official fuel supply for provincial ministers, immediately reducing petrol and diesel allowances for government officers’ vehicles by 50%, implementing a work-from-home policy for government offices, and closing schools, colleges, and universities from March 10 to March 31.

She declared the suspension of all government outdoor events, including the Horse and Cattle Show cultural fair, which has been postponed.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the steps in a lengthy post on X.

“In light of the exceptional economic problems posed by the prolonged fighting in the region, I have decided to take extraordinary steps to safeguard the public and manage resources properly. Until the petroleum situation is resolved, official fuel supplies to provincial ministers will be discontinued. “I have also ordered an immediate 50% reduction in petrol and diesel allowances for government officers’ vehicles,” she stated.

The protocol vehicles that transport provincial ministers and senior government officials have also been prohibited. Only one car will be permitted for crucial security reasons.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that government agencies will implement a work-from-home policy, with only essential personnel attending workplaces.

“Schools, colleges, and universities will be closed from March 10 to March 31, while examinations will proceed as planned. She stated that educational institutions may provide online classes during this time.Citizens will continue to benefit from e-business and “Maryam Ki Dastak” services. Official business will be conducted via online meetings and teleconferences,” she added.

The Chief Minister stated that District Petroleum Monitoring Committees have been formed in all districts to maintain tight monitoring of petroleum deliveries.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will collaborate with district administration, police, and other authorities to create a Track and Trace system for petroleum products.Under the work-from-home policy, only additional support staff movement would be restricted; government work will continue uninterrupted,” she stated.

The Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab Province recommended the private sector to work from home whenever possible, minimise needless events, and keep on-site staff to a minimum.

“District administrations have been urged to rigorously monitor transit rates and take firm legal action against overcharging. “The supply and prices of essential food items will also be closely monitored throughout Punjab,” she stated.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif asked people to avoid public gatherings, late-night shopping, and needless stockpiling of critical products during this difficult time.

According to Dawn, Pakistan suffered the immediate economic impact of the US-Israel confrontation with Iran on Friday, when the government announced a Rs55 per litre hike in fuel and high-speed diesel rates.
