Pakistan appeals to US, Iran to maintain ceasefire despite collapse of talks

Pakistan appeals to US : Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, urged the US and Iran to maintain the ceasefire during the deadlocked peace talks on Sunday. We hope that both sides maintain a constructive attitude in order to achieve long-term peace and development for the area and beyond. The sides must maintain their cease-fire commitment. Pakistan has been and will continue to play a role in facilitating interaction and communication between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America in the coming days,” he stated.

Dar commended the United States and Iran for responding to Pakistan’s invitation for peace talks.

“Let me begin by expressing my deep gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America for responding to the call made by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for an immediate ceasefire in the region as well as for accepting Prime Minister’s invitation for holding peace talks in Islamabad,” said Sharif.

The Islamabad Talks, a high-stakes event, drew an unprecedented number of senior officials. Vice President JD Vance represented the United States, and Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, represented Iran.

Pakistan has issued a strong appeal to both the United States and Iran to observe the continuing truce, despite the fact that high-level peace discussions concluded without agreement. The development has generated major concerns about the viability of the fragile truce and the possibility of tensions rising again.

According to latest accounts, lengthy negotiations in Islamabad collapsed after over 21 hours of heated debate. The discussions were intended to terminate the ongoing violence and establish a long-term peace framework, but major disagreements remained unsolved.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, emphasized that it is “imperative” for all sides to maintain the truce despite the collapse in discussions. He further stated that Pakistan will continue its diplomatic efforts to bring both countries back to the negotiating table.

Pakistan US Iran ceasefire talks collapse: What went wrong?

The breakdown of the talks reveals deep divisions between Washington and Iran. The United States advocated for stringent conditions, such as restrictions on military acts and enhanced surveillance systems. Iran, on the other hand, requested sanctions relief and security guarantees prior to reaching an agreement on long-term peace.

Another key issue was nuclear commitments and regional control, which neither side would compromise on. These unaddressed concerns eventually led to an impasse, despite some progress on minor issues.

The conversations were particularly significant because they were one of the first direct interactions between the two countries in years. However, the outcome demonstrates how complex and sensitive the subject remains.

Ceasefire fragile: Big risk or opportunity ahead?

Despite the fact that no agreement was reached, the current cease-fire remains in effect—for the time being. Experts warn that the truce is exceedingly fragile and may collapse if both parties do not exercise moderation.

Pakistan’s involvement as a mediator is considered as critical. The country has positioned itself as a bridge between the two sides and is expected to continue advocating for talks.

The following days will be key. If diplomatic efforts resume, there is yet a chance for peace. However, if tensions increase again, the region might enter another era of conflict, threatening global stability and oil prices.
