Nasrallah Abu Siyam killing : More than 30 US senators have urged the government of Donald Trump to conduct an independent investigation into the death of a 19-year-old American in the occupied West Bank, noting that an increasing number of similar crimes have gone unpunished.
In a letter dated Wednesday (March 4), senators requested that the administration investigate the February killing of Nasrallah Abu Siyam, a Philadelphia-born youngster who was shot in the West Bank community of Mukhmas.
Lawmakers highlight “consistent pattern”
The letter, sponsored by Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen, is written to Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State; Pam Bondi, the US Attorney General; and Mike Huckabee, US Ambassador to Israel. It calls for a US-led probe into Nasrallah Abu Siyam’s killing, as well as a full accounting of nine cases involving American nationals slain in the West Bank since 2022. They also sought a briefing for lawmakers in Congress by April 5.The senators wrote, “This has now become a consistent pattern in which Americans are killed in the West Bank by settlers or the [Israel Defence Forces (IDF)] without justice or accountability, despite promises from US officials.”

Israelis killed at least nine Americans in the West Bank: a pattern of unresolved cases
Thirty-one Democratic and independent senators, including prominent names like Patty Murray, Dick Durbin, Jack Reed, and Bernie Sanders, signed the letter on Thursday.
The senators pointed out that no criminal prosecution has resulted from any of the nine murders of US residents in the West Bank since 2022. “For all nine of these killings, no one has yet been held accountable by the Netanyahu government,” they stated, “nor has the US government upheld its duty to protect Americans and secure justice and accountability for their deaths.”

Among the victims was Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead while covering an Israeli military operation in 2022. Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, of Seattle, was also shot in the head during a protest in the West Bank in 2024; Khamis al-Ayyada, 40, died from smoke inhalation in August after Israeli settlers started a fire in his village; and Omar Assad, an elderly Palestinian American, passed away after being detained by Israeli soldiers. Three of the nine people were minors: two 17-year-olds and a 14-year-old from New Jersey who perished in separate incidents.
