The passing of renowned actor Dharmendra on Monday prompted condolences and anecdotes from throughout the Hindi cinema industry. Many celebrities and filmmakers left sincere comments for the late actor. On Monday night, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra’s frequent co-star from the 1970s and 1980s, took to his blog to pay respect to his friend.
Amitabh Bachchan pays tribute to Dharmendra
The renowned actor who featured alongside Dharmendra in Sholay stated on his blog, “Another valiant Giant has left us, left the arena, leaving behind a silence with an unbearable sound.”

Amitabh responded, “Dharam ji, the embodiment of greatness, ever linked not only for his renowned physical presence, but for the largeness of his heart and its most appealing simplicity,” when questioned about Dharmendra’s impact and persona. Throughout his incredible career, he stayed loyal to the earthiness of the Punjabi hamlet from where he originated, in a fraternity that evolved every ten years. The fraternity changed, not him. He was unique in the field because of his smile, charm, and warmth toward everyone in his vicinity.

Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan made their screen debut together in Dost in 1974. They went on to have two successful films together, Chupke Chupke and Sholay in 1975. Later, they co-starred in a number of films, including Hum Kaun Hain, Ram Balram, and Naseeb. With a melancholic final line, Amitabh wrote, “The air about us swings vacant, a vacuum that shall ever remain vacuus.”

Dharmendra died
On Monday morning, Dharmendra, who was 89 years old, passed away. The actor was admitted to the hospital early this month after becoming ill for a few weeks. His relatives denied the report that he passed away on November 10. After a few days, Dharmendra was finally allowed to leave the hospital and return home. He passed away in his Juhu family home on November 24. The renowned actor was cremated in the Pavan Hans Crematorium later that day.
