According to MPs who attended a closed-door briefing last week, the spy service believes North Korean forces are benefiting from the battle by receiving modern combat experience and Russian technical support, which could increase the effectiveness of their military systems.

The new street’s development comes as North Korea prepares to hold a major governing party convention later this month, during which Kim is expected to reveal his major domestic and foreign policy goals for the next five years and take other moves to tighten his grip.

The unveiling comes ahead of the ruling Workers’ Party’s Ninth Congress, which is scheduled to meet in late February and is expected to serve as a significant political showcase for Kim’s accomplishments and policy aspirations.
