Guam [US]: The Indian Navy, along with a number of partner nations, is taking part in Exercise Sea Dragon 2026, a multinational anti-submarine warfare drill led by the United States Navy and taking place at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam throughout March.
The exercise has brought together maritime troops from numerous partner countries, including the US Navy, the Royal Australian Air Force, the Japan Maritime Self-defence Force, and the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
The multinational is being carried out by the nations in order to boost cooperation among ally forces and build understanding for stronger anti-submarine warfare capabilities in the Indo-Pacific area.

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has sent a P-8A Poseidon aircraft and fifty pilots to Guam to participate in Exercise Sea Dragon 2026, a multinational anti-submarine warfare training exercise led by the United States Navy that is taking place throughout March, according to an official statement from the Australian Ministry of Defence.
Forces from a number of partner countries, including the Indian Navy, the Japan Maritime Self-defence Force, and the Royal New Zealand Air Force, are participating in the exercise at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. According to the announcement, the international exercise aims to improve anti-submarine warfare capabilities throughout the Indo-Pacific area while fortifying cooperation among ally maritime forces.
During the two-week exercise, aviators from the RAAF’s freshly rebuilt 12 Squadron will take part in a variety of demanding training scenarios. These exercises are intended to put personnel’ abilities to detect, track, and respond to both simulated and live submarine targets to the test in a demanding operational environment.

The training will concentrate on enhancing speed, precision, and coordinated mission execution among participating forces. Exercise Sea Dragon is part of a larger series of cooperative defence actions carried out by Indo-Pacific countries to improve maritime security and stability in the region’s vital waterways. Anti-submarine warfare training is regarded as especially crucial, given the growing importance of submarine operations in current naval strategy.
The RAAF’s involvement in the exercise emphasises the operational significance of its P-8A Poseidon aircraft. Australia currently has 13 multi-mission marine aircraft that are employed for long-range strike, intelligence gathering, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
The Poseidon aircraft are outfitted with modern sensors and communication systems, allowing them to detect and monitor submarines and surface vessels across wide ocean areas. The platform is an important component of Australia’s marine defence capabilities, enabling the country to conduct security operations throughout the Indo-Pacific.
According to the Australian Department of Defence, the aircraft and soldiers stationed on Guam will collaborate closely with foreign colleagues throughout the exercise, improving coordination and operational compatibility across participating forces.
