India-us defence : Bengaluru (Karnataka): Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command, visited India from February 14 to 19 to collaborate on India-US shared security interests and strengthen the countries’ close military ties, according to an official statement from the US Indo-Pacific Command on Thursday.

According to the statement , the visits to New Delhi, Chandimandir, and Bengaluru highlighted India’s critical role in promoting regional security and improving military interoperability across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace domains. Admiral Paparo visited New Delhi and met with senior Indian defence leaders, including General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, and Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. These conversations focused on issues of mutual interest, such as India’s efforts to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
As part of the tour, the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) and its director, Suzanne P. Vares-Lum, hosted an alumni gathering in New Delhi for Indian graduates of APCSS programs. The gathering allowed graduates to exchange ideas, build professional networks, and brainstorm joint solutions to regional security concerns.
Admiral Paparo paid a visit to India’s Western Command in Chandimandir with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor to review operational security dynamics on India’s western and northern fronts, the statement said.

Admiral Paparo finished his journey in Bengaluru with visits to the Aeronautical Development Agency and the National Flight Test Center, where he emphasised the importance of boosting defence industrial partnership and aerospace innovation.

According to the release, Admiral Paparo also met with US and Indian industrial and technology executives to strengthen collaboration in developing sectors. Along with Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade William Kimmitt, he attended a US-India Strategic Partnership Forum event focused on defence and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, expanded cooperation among Quad partners, and the recently signed 10-year defence framework.
The statement stated that the United States identified India as a Major Defence Partner in 2016, expanding on the 2013 Joint Principles for Defence Cooperation. On October 31, 2025, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh signed the 2025 Framework for the United States-India Major Defence Partnership at the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, establishing the most ambitious and comprehensive update to the defence relationship to date and guiding cooperation for the next decade.
As a critical Quad partner, India, the United States, Japan, and Australia collaborate to bolster marine, economic, and technology security in response to rising regional concerns.
According to the statement, the Quad recently participated in a field training exercise that expanded the Indo-Pacific Logistics Network (IPLN), thereby improving regional collaboration and operational readiness.
It further stated that the US has regular military engagements with India across all services to improve preparedness and interoperability. Exercises such as Malabar, Cyber Flag, Tiger Triumph, Yudh Abhyas, and Cope India improve operational effectiveness in high-risk settings.
The statement emphasised that USINDOPACOM is committed to enhancing Indo-Pacific regional stability by promoting security cooperation, facilitating peaceful development, responding to contingencies, deterring aggression, and, if necessary, prevailing in combat.
