Shanghai [China] : Pratik Mathur, India’s Consul General in Shanghai, met with Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng on Friday to commemorate the opening of the SCO Cooperation Centre for Metabolic Diseases, renewing efforts to promote India-China ties .

According to a post on X by the Consulate General of India in Shanghai, the meeting occurred on the margins of the inaugural ceremony of the center built under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
During the conversation, Mayor Gong expressed satisfaction with recent development in bilateral relations, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s travel to China to attend the Tianjin SCO Summit in August.

He also cited the well praised return of direct air links between Shanghai and Indian cities as an encouraging trend.

Consul General Mathur thanked the senior Chinese leadership and expressed India’s best wishes for further collaboration. He emphasised that the progress made in bilateral relations will be beneficial to collaboration in multilateral platforms like as the SCO and BRICS.

The Indian side also announced that it will host the BRICS Leaders’ Summit later this year, expressing confidence that increased bilateral cooperation would benefit both regional and global platforms.
The summit was broadcast on X with the message “United for a Healthy Future,” emphasising the importance of healthcare collaboration and multilateral participation.
Earlier in September, when speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Council (SCO) Members Session in Tianjin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India’s new mantra is to reform, perform and transform.
PM Modi also asked everyone to be a part of India’s path.
Prime Minister Modi stated: “Today, India is moving ahead following the mantra of Reform, Perform and Transform… We have tried to turn every challenge into an opportunity… I invite all of you to be a part of India’s development journey.”
PM Modi stated that India’s vision for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is governed by three pillars: security, connectivity, and opportunity. He emphasised the importance of security, peace, and stability in a country’s growth, India’s connectivity efforts in Afghanistan and Central Asia, and proposed the establishment of a Civilisational Dialogue Forum to promote cultural characteristics of SCO member countries to the globe.
Addressing the 25th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Tianjin, Prime Minister Modi stated, “As an active and committed member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), India has always played a constructive and beneficial role in promoting the organisation’s objectives. India’s participation in the SCO framework is led by three fundamental pillars: security, connectivity, and opportunity.
