Field Marshal Asim Munir , Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces, ranted against spewed venom against India.

Pakistan had its deadliest year in a decade as its relations with the Taliban deteriorated.

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s recently appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), has provoked India once more without cause, threatening an even more “swift, severe, and intense” retaliation in the event of future aggression.

“India should not be in any delusion [as] Pakistan’s response [in case of any aggression] will be even more swift and intense,” Munir, who assumed the new position of head of all three defense forces last week, told the military officers during a ceremony honoring his appointment as the nation’s first CDF.

On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, which targeted militant infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people. The strikes sparked four days of fierce confrontations, culminating in an agreement to halt military operations on May 10.

Munir also asserted that Pakistan was a peaceful country, but cautioned that no one would be permitted to challenge Islamabad’s territorial integrity or sovereignty.

During the ceremony, contingents from all three services – the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Air Force – gave a guard of honour to the Field Marshal.

Field Marshal Asim Munir Warning To Afghanistan

Speaking about Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions, Munir stated that the Afghan Taliban administration has received a clear message in Kabul. “The (Afghan) Taliban have no option but to choose between Fitna al-Khawarij [TTP] and Pakistan,” he told reporters.

Last year, the government designated the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a reference to a previous Islamic group that was involved in bloodshed.

Munir stated that the newly created Defence Forces Headquarters represented a historic change.

“In view of the growing and changing threats, it is necessary that we further improve multi-domain operations under the unified system of the three forces,” he told journalists.

He also stated that each service will preserve its individuality in terms of operational preparedness, while the CDF headquarters will coordinate the services’ actions.

The Pakistan Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and top officers from all three armed forces attended the occasion.

Munir’s rise to Power

Munir took over as the first CDF after the government announced his selection last week for a five-year tenure; he will also serve as Chief of Army Staff.

Munir’s CDF position not only consolidates his authority over all three service branches (Army, Navy, and Air Force), but also gives him oversight of the National Strategic Command, which manages the country’s nuclear weapons and missile systems, establishing Munir as the country’s most powerful military figure.

The CDF was founded in response to the 27th Constitutional Amendment last month and related revisions to the Pakistan Army, Air Force, and Navy (Amendment) Bills 2025.

Munir’s Previous Threats Toward India

Munir has previously launched unjustified threats against India. While Pakistan was bombing Afghan civilians in October, Munir stepped up his anti-India nuclear rhetoric, stating that Islamabad’s expanding military capabilities may “shatter the misconceived immunity of India’s geographical warspace.”

Munir made a similar aggressive speech against India days before terrorists massacred 26 civilians in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam. At the time, Munir referred to Kashmir as Islamabad’s “jugular vein”.
