Washington DC [US]: US President Donald Trump released a sternly worded statement against Iran on Tuesday, urging the country to stop deploying mines in the Strait of Hormuz and warned of military implications if they are not removed.

He made his comments in a Truth Social post.

Donald Trump stated

The US President stated, “If Iran has placed any mines in the Hormuz Strait, and we have no evidence of their doing so, we want them removed immediately! If mines were put and not removed immediately, the military ramifications for Iran would be unprecedented. If, on the other hand, they remove whatever was placed, that will be a huge step in the right way! Furthermore, we are employing the same technology and missile capabilities used against drug traffickers to destroy any boat or ship attempting to mine the Hormuz Strait. They will be dealt with swiftly and violently. BEWARE! President Donald J. Trump.

Shortly after, in another post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that ten inactive mine-laying boats/ships had been attacked and destroyed.

The US Central Command also put a video on X depicting Iran’s naval capability being reduced. It stated that “US forces are reducing the Iranian regime’s ability to project power at sea and harass international shipping.” For years, Iranian forces have jeopardised the freedom of navigation in waters critical to American, regional, and global security and economy.

During a press briefing earlier on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the United States has not ruled out the possibility of stationing troops in Iran and that the country’s military operations would cease once Epic Fury’s goals were met.

The developments come amid an escalating security situation in West Asia, which has resulted in the conflict spreading beyond Iran, with Iranian retaliatory strikes targeting US military bases, embassies, and civilian/energy infrastructure in neighbouring Gulf nations such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.

The battle has created substantial interruptions to global energy supplies, particularly near the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of the world’s oil travels.
