Commercial LPG Supply Restricted : Only Hospitals and Schools to Receive Cylinders

Commercial LPG Supply Restricted : Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have advised LPG distributors to limit commercial gas cylinder delivery to hospitals and educational institutions for the time being. Cylinder deliveries to hotels, restaurants, and other commercial places have been temporarily halted.

Moneycontrol examined an internal letter made to LPG wholesalers. OMCs have advised LPG distributors that, in accordance with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas’s most recent directives, non-domestic (commercial) cylinders will now only be sold to hospitals and educational institutions. For the time being, hotels, restaurants, and other business venues will not receive commercial cylinders.

In the meanwhile, there is now a larger booking gap for home LPG cylinders. In the past, a second cylinder may be reserved within 21 days. The duration has been increased to 25 days.

Additionally, NDNE transmissions stopped

OMCs announced in another internal message on March 8 that the delivery of non-domestic non-essential (NDNE) cylinders, or commercial cylinders, has been suspended until further notice due to the worsening war situation and import impediments.

According to the communication, this decision should be communicated to all distributors and direct clients. Key consumers should be individually contacted by the state-level sales teams and pertinent divisional managers to explain the situation.

Additionally, it said that significant clients, distributors, retailers, and business partners should receive regular updates on product availability and be reassured that supply will start up again as soon as the situation returns to normal.

The loading and billing of commercial cylinders has also been stopped.

Commercial cylinder loading and billing have been suspended for the time being, according to an LPG distributor who spoke on condition of anonymity. Until a new LPG shipment is confirmed, supplies won’t start up again.

Distributors claim that Indian Oil Corporation’s Devanagothi facility in Bengaluru has also stopped supplying commercial cylinders. The lack of LPG shipments from the ports in Chennai and Mangaluru is allegedly the cause of this.

The scarcity of commercial LPG cylinders has made the situation in Bengaluru dire. The Bengaluru Hotels Association has issued a warning, stating that hotels may close on March 10 if supplies are not quickly restored.

The government has temporarily stopped bottling commercial cylinders nationwide, according to another LPG merchant. The dealer claims that “there are no dispatches nationwide, and commercial cylinder refilling has been stopped since this morning.” This issue affects the entire country, not just Bengaluru. Depending on the availability of LPG, the government will determine when supply will resume.
